Kale Berry Smoothie!!

Today’s Lesson: Try something New

Okay I’ll admit it, I was terrified to put kale in a smoothie.  I thought, I’ll probably end up throwing this away.  Kale and fruit don’t seem like they belong in the same sentence together let alone the same blender, but it worked and it was delicious! I’m not a very adventurous eater so if I liked this that means most people will, even children.  You literally can’t taste the kale.  You’re tongue tastes something green but in no way is it offensive, it tastes refreshing.  Spinach can also be used and has even less of a flavor than kale.  I can see endless combinations with this amazingly nutritious green.
So why bother with kale, well kale is said to be “the queen of greens,” it’s rich in vitamins A,C, and K plus minerals and antioxidants.  I used frozen blueberries because I think eating seasonally is important, and frozen when you can’t get local and seasonal is a great healthy choice.  Fresh isn’t always better especially because a lot of fruits and vegetables are picked before they are ripe and shipped to stores.  Because of this you’re not getting all the vitamins and minerals that you would if it had been picked at the peak of ripeness which is when frozen fruits and veggies are usually picked.  Everyone wants to increase their fruit and vegetable intake and this is a great way to do that.

Ingredients
1 cup Vanilla Greek Gods Yogurt (my favorite)
1 cup kale raw, pulled off the stem
1 cup orange juice
2 ice cubes
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
Makes 1 large smoothie
Just put all the ingredients in the blender and pulse away.  Happy blending!!
